Every year, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of alumni and supporters of the University who enable hundreds of students to take up their place at Leeds with the gift of a scholarship. The opportunities you offer are life-changing and help students break through barriers they face so they can put their futures first by studying at Leeds.

A gift of a scholarship helps students like Emillie put their futures first

Two years ago, Emillie found herself in a situation where she was having to flee domestic violence whilst pregnant with her son and lacked support.

Determined that this situation would not define her future, she wanted to use her experience and passion to help other women like her through social work. Studying at Leeds has enabled her to take the first steps to making this happen.

“I didn’t have much when I was growing up, my mum did her best for me, but it was hard for her and she couldn’t afford to pay the bills. I come from an area where university isn’t really something people consider when they leave school and opportunities can be limited. 

"I will never forget the enormous sense of relief and achievement I felt when receiving my offer letter. Thanks to the kindness of donors, the financial support I received from the scholarship has meant that I can focus on my studies and create special memories with my son whilst pursing my goal of helping others, safe in the knowledge I can afford every day costs such as rent and bills."

How your help can support a student

By giving today, you can provide students with a sense of belonging and grant access to our Plus Programme, a support network which helps them to:

• Forge life-long friendships and feel part of the Leeds community through a range of social events
• Become more confidently academic and face challenges on their course with extra study guidance
• Take advantage of enhanced careers services to help develop their skills and prepare them for future success through voluntary work and internships
