Growing up, Heba always knew she wanted to make an impact

Coming from a single parent household, Heba knew coming to university was going to be a financial burden, but deep down she knew she had to pursue her dream of studying nursing.

"Through my own trials and tribulations at home, I wanted to be able to positively impact someone else's life."

Thanks to her scholarship, she was able to pursue her dreams without excess debt and stress which can come from studying

"My goal was to be able to give myself the most fulfilling university experience without having to worry about my financial situation at home. I believe that every student is entitled to enjoy their time at Leeds, so I was grateful to have been selected as a scholar."

It enabled her to live a normal life and access amazing opportunities

"I recently took part in a once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunity to complete a nursing placement abroad in Sri Lanka through a grant from the Opportunities Fund. Completing an elective placement was always my ambition and I finally got to follow it through. It was such an eye- opening experience to see what global health is like and the different forms of treatment patients receive abroad."
