Growing up in poverty, single mum Emillie knew she wanted to create a brighter future for her and her son, Ronnie, and had dreams of becoming a social worker. Living on benefits with a young baby, she realised there was a huge financial barrier standing between her and her ambitions.
That all changed when she applied for a scholarship at Leeds, and was given the opportunity to study Social Care.
As the first person in her family to go to university, it was a huge boost to her self-belief and confidence, knowing that so many people believed in her - providing her with the drive and determination to succeed.
